EmpoweredSAT was created for students like you!

Our story

EmpoweredSAT believes that students can achieve success by being empowered to take control of their learning.  This is because the Empowered Approach was developed by a learner who did just that when faced with a monumental challenge: ME!

My name is Jon and I took control of my learning with the Empowered Approach and I have used this same method to help students just like you do the same.

Growing up

I knew I was smart but, nevertheless, my teachers always placed me in the low class.  The experience was discouraging and reinforcing.  I still remember earning a C in my seventh-grade math class despite knowing that I could learn just as well as the other students.

The next year my entire class was forced to take advanced algebra and our final would be a dreaded standardized test, the New York State Algebra Regents.

I decided to take control.

On the first day of class I told the teacher that I would get a 100% on the final.  She told me that I wasn’t smart enough.  I told her that she would see.

After just a couple days I realized the challenge was bigger than I expected.  I was staring at a homework problem, trying to apply what we had learned in class, and just not getting it.

I didn’t give up.

I used every resource available: parents, friends, the text book, and, most importantly, my own brain.  I must have spent almost an hour staring at that problem and the lesson in the text book when finally...

I GOT IT!

The process repeated itself the next night and the night after that.  The teacher had not successfully taught me the material in class but I was using the resources at my disposal to figure it out.

As the year went on, so did the challenge of the math problems.  But, it was a challenge that I was able to take on with confidence and increasing efficiency.  Before I knew it, I was not only teaching myself but my friends too.

We reached the end of the year and sat for the final.  I waited a long time for the score to come in and it finally came.

I had worked my way to a 100%!

It was satisfying to show my score to the teacher who had given me the C the previous year.  It was satisfying to master the course.  Most importantly, it was empowering to know that I had unlocked my potential and saw a glimpse of what I could accomplish by taking control of my success.

I am now on a mission to EMPOWER students.

I have taken my own experience and developed it into the Empowered Approach to coach students to get in the driver’s seat of their testing experience and take control of their own learning.  Empowering a student to unlock their potential is a great feeling and it is the inspiration behind EmpoweredSAT.

I look forward to working with you and helping your student take control of their success on the SAT and beyond.
